I remember, right after I had Ezra, I decided to chop all my hair off. Not because it was more convinient, or because it was more 'baby-friendly', but because I needed a change. A drastic change. Perhaps it was my way of screaming "HEY! I'm still here! I am more than a pair of arms that totes this baby around! I'm... me!" Or maybe it was the shifting hormones that needed a physical outlet. I don't know. But I do know that I am sooo feeling that itch again... the one that wants to do something extreme.
This time around, however, I am not so willing to obey that voice that is begging me to chop off my hair. Because... as you all may remember... growing my hair out was VERY HARD WORK.
I also don't have a lot of extra money to go buy some new clothes to mix things up a bit, so that outlet is out of the question for now too. So... if a girl can't change her wardrobe and is unwilling to chop off all her hair... what does she do?
No, really. I need suggestions.
One way I've found to "scratch the itch" is to daydream about changing these things. So I 'window shop' online, and I drool over haircuts that I adore. Haircuts like these:
DROOL DROOL.
Yesterday I played around with head wraps made out of scraps of vintage fabric... one way to change my look without scissors, I suppose:
*meh.*
Must... stay... focused.
...getting weaker by the second...

What do you change when you're feeling the need to revamp?

I'm a bad one to say anything because I'm all about the cutting the hair off, growing it back, cutting it off, growing it back. I've found that cutting it off brings me such satisfaction in itself and then the growing process also feeds my need for change regularly as I find different cuts I like to try for the in between...see...no help.
but bangs maybe? Your bangs were adorable before...maybe trying that again would buy you some more time? ack...no help at all am ?...excuse me while I go rearrange my bedroom for the 3rd time this week...ack.
I just had a baby and I'm desperate to chop too! It'll have to wait until I can get a salon, maybe in 20 years or so!!! I do temporary hair color to change things up. Nothing drastic, just a box of Natural Instincts semi-permanent. It washes out in about a month and is pretty cheap so I can keep it up if I like or let it go. Maybe you could try something like that.
Either change the color or change the bangs. Either one of those makes a HUGE difference. Color can be expensive, but cutting bangs costs next to nothing.
I recommend Michelle Franks at the original Velvet Monkey on 23rd Street. I've seen that girl do some amazing things with people's hair. I guarantee you will leave her chair happy. And if you decide to cut and color it, she has great prices. The number to the salon is 405-528-1106.
DO NOT CUT IT for sure... because if you're ever going to cut your hair right after gaining weight to have a baby is the worst time. trust me.
color your hair. well, get it colored, by someone awesome like brook who has super cool ideas about something new you could do.
that's what i'm doing this time!
I was feeling the same way today. At 34 weeks pregnant I don't want to go buy new clothes b/c hopefully I won't be this big for too much longer. And I don't have the cash for a haircut. I did manage to rummage up enough money for an eyebrow wax (I raided my coin jar). The hair-dye is a good idea. Or, if you have a sewing machine, you could try making something new out of an old outfit?
I vote dye hair.

I rearrange furniture and/or try a new recipe or decide to teach myself something new (latest was cable knitting)...but I'm old fashioned and unfashionable.
I move furniture...but I'm pretty sure you already do that ;)
Have you thought of cooking something different? Maybe trying out an *exotic* new recipe? Cooking helps me mix it up when I need a change.
Oh my goodness, I just realized that I said two of the EXACT same things as Marianne. Hahahahaha.
I think you should cut your hair. It's hair, though it takes awhie to grow back it's fun doing it and alone the way you can try different styles! I think those haircuts are super cute and you would look great with them...and the weight issue someone said? Um...you don't need to worry about that.
I am a furniture mover. Anytime I need a change I start moving stuff around. But with 3 small kids its not always possible until bedtime. Also, I paint my nails. I know it doesn't seem like a big change but once the kids are in bed I will give myself a manipedi. It helps me.
Good Luck Girl!
I like to rearrange the furniture.
how about something challenging like train for a 5k race or pick up swimming? not that you have time for that! ;-) but you get the idea. or just keep it simple and paint your front door a fun new color.
Everytime I feel like a change, I buy a nice new clothing item (usually from a second hand store, something cheap and funky!) then I dye my hair, then have a relaxing bath with bubbles and bath bombs, then paint my nails a nice colour. That is usually enough change for me and I play with my new hair colour and team it with my new jacket or top or dress.
ummm....daydream about hanging out with me in Denver? Or laugh about the "car" we invented in high school. Or geez...I am not very good at coming up with anything better than shopping or changing hair. Make jewelry? Rub icy-hot all over your body? Draw me comics? Study art history? Yeah...that's all I got.
I personally think dying hair is not the best idea if you want to keep it long and not spend a lot of money. Unless you dye it yourself but then you still have the healthy hair issue.
You look really good in your picture with short hair, like in your vintage blog picture. It is sexy. So if you like it that way go for it! Especially since the cuts you found are cute.
I too move furniture at least once a month when I can no longer hold in the urge! It is very liberating but not quite the same as changing your appearance.
And I also chopped my hair off after having the baby. It must be some crazy post pregnancy thing. lol
Good luck.
okay, so hubby just said he thought I'd look sexy with the top haircut pic and now the itch is EVEN STROOOONGER!! agggh!
Emery do NOT chop off that hair!
I remember meeting you at laurel ridge like two years ago when it was super short and you complaining about it THEN. hahaha. Try messing around with the clothes you never wear and see what you come up with. That's usually what I do. Or if you're feeling really radical get a tattoo. I don't know where you stand on those but everyone has one they've always thought about. That means a lot to them. I want 'in faith' on my neck. Like in Romans where it says that by faith we are made acceptable to God.
Just thoughts (:
I like the first cut, too. DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!
Hey Em!
Those would look adorable on you! Go for it. I'm all about change. I did the same with both of my pregnancies. Where did you find those pictures of haircuts? It's hard to find cute ones like that.
